Tips For upcoming Actors interested in Nollywood by Actor Charles Etubiebi

Recently Actor Charles Etubiebi posted this thread on twitter for upcoming Nollywood Actors

Dear upcoming Nollywood actors, as I address u I address myself also.
If your goal is to be an actor in this Industry then
1. take some time to learn about who u are & why u want to do this. Is it because you have an inner calling to be an actor or for fame or because

You just want to try it out and see where it takes you. Well what ever the reason make sure you know what it is. That would guide you through some turbulent times cos there will be ups and downs

2. Learn all you can about what it means to be an actor. Read, take classes, train

Yourself and do all you can to prepare yourself so when that spot light shines on you, you’re sure you’re 120% ready.

3. If you’re in this for the long haul then be in it for the long haul.
There are roles that would define your career and make you visible to the industry to

See the kind of actor you are. I have found that serious filmmakers do not brag about being serious filmmakers (read that again) they are more interested in saying something than making noise about what they are saying so they dont tell you its an opportunity of a lifetime 😒.
They simply are looking to make a statement and as such want like minded individuals who believe in the message of their story. This leads me to my next point.

4. No single job will define your entire career. You will work on some great projects and you will work on some not so

Great ones because you need money to eat. You will play lead & you will be an extra but in all of this keep moving & make sure u give it a 120% every time.

5. Power is silent. I say that to say this. You will never see Dangote bragging about his work or his wealth. He knows who

He is and your opinions won’t change that. People who make things happen won’t require you to do anything compromising to get the opportunity to do what they “need” you to do. If its important to them then they will delegate/ hire competent hands to handle it (Think about this)
So if a person say this job is important but I “want” you to compromise to get it then it means they dont “need” you to do the job because quite frankly it isn’t important to them and you really do not want to work with such people.
If they do not take themselves seriously
Enough to hire the best to work with then why do you think they will take you seriously after you compromise who you are for them?

Like I said at the beginning. Know who you are and why you want to do this. Really ask yourself some hard questions.

Jesus said he who loves his

Life in this world would lose it but he who looses his life for my sake would gain it. Here’s what that means to me. In this life you must give yourself to something or some cause. Acting is a full time job. It will require your full attention. Some people can do other things

While still keeping their acting career going , some can’t. I’m one of those who doesn’t know what I’ll do if I wasn’t an actor. I realized this a long time ago and decided that rather than be ashamed of this I’d work hard and give everything I am to being the best actor I can be
Today I’ve work on some really great project and have won some awards both home and abroad and I know strongly deep down in my soul that I’m not even close to being the best version of myself or the best actor i am capable of becoming so I keep pressing on and stay learning
I’ll try and wrap this up with this

Dear upcoming Nollywood actor people who want to do great things find those who are like minded because realizing a dream is expensive and I’m not talking about money. I’m talking about paying with your life as currency to achieve your goal

Giving who you are to be who you want to be. See I use to word “giving” not compromising who you are.
I know sometimes you just want to get ahead, I know sometimes life seems slow but trust me if you keep putting in the work you will get to where you want to go.
There will be people watching you and seeing your growth as a person and as an actor and they will include you as part of their family to help realize their dreams as well as yours. And they will never ask you to compromise who you are or what you believe.
I have been blessed to meet & work with a lot of these people in Nollywood and I pray you meet them too. But in the mean time work on yourself. Work on the value you bring to the table and you will always have people who “need” and are willing to pay for what you have to offer
Please don’t get carried away with this new “blow culture” where everyone wants to be famous qucikly or make quick money. The only people who make money work in a mint. The rest of us have to earn it by the value we provide. So what value are you bringing?
Finally always remember these words. The gift of a man maketh a way for him. The blessing of God maketh rich and adds no sorrow. Here’s what that means to me. Do your best you can & understand that you never chase what is God sent. All the best my dear Upcoming Nollywood act
