Post Production Training with Niyi Akinmolayan
It’s that time of the year again. We’ve done this three times now and this year, I have decided to include men as well. I hope to make this edition even bigger and better. Did you know that the award winning Elevatorbaby was edited by two young women that were once part of this program. Also one of the students from last year now works at anthill studios. I’m really proud of what some of the girls have achieved. can’t wait to do it again and this time, with guys as well.
Who is a Video Editor?
The editor plays an important role in determining a film’s potential, and so, you must be willing to creatively challenge your imagination to create or recreate a compelling story.
Video editing is not for everyone. Only smart people who have great attention to detail, with the gift of patience, not in a hurry to shut down your computer because bae is waiting, quick at spotting contradictions, emotionally intelligent, with a dash of hardcore – it is also important that you are a good story teller because really, that’s your job. Also, very importantly, If you want to transit into directing or producing, Editing gives you firm relationship with the other crew members, so that if you ever hear anyone whisper “we will fix it in post”, you might need to scream “NO, FIX IT NOW!” Editing also makes you a better director and producer. A lot of your favourite film directors started as editors…including me.
So, at this point we hope you have identified the qualities you already have and the qualities you need if you really want to learn and be a top notch editor.
The training is free and will run for 3 days in April (10th to 12th). date might change depending on my availability. Each day from 9am to 5pm. venue will be communicated to the selected ones and it will be in Lagos. Application is open to men and women of all ages and works of life.
